Friends Like Us- Peer Support Group
For 3 years FCA has developed a peer support group/playgroup for elementary aged children. Now we are happy to offer a second group to meet the requests of member families.
Children in grades 1-3 are invited to participate in this 8 month program, for the academic year 2015-2016, September through April. The group meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:30pm at the Fraser facility on University Ave near 280.
The group will be led by licensed social worker, Elana Schuster, and her description of the group is as follows:
"The “Friends Like Us” group will be a safe space for children to build friendships and explore their identity. This group will focus on various adoption themes, including diversity, adoptive families and birth families. While adoption will be the common thread throughout the group, we will also address self-esteem and school/peer issues.
Please note that discussions related to your child’s adoption story and/or birth family will undoubtedly arise. These discussions will be facilitated in a developmentally appropriately manner and children will be empowered to choose what information they would like to share or keep to themselves."
Each session begins with a parent-child activity designed to strengthen healthy attachment. While the children meet, a corresponding parent group will meet, led by participants.

Schedule and Location - 6-7:30 PM -Third Tuesday of each month -Fall and Spring schedule includes the following dates:
September 15, October 20, Nov 17, Dec 15, Jan 19, Feb 16, March 15, April 19
Cost - 8 sessions: $160 one child/parent(s). Payment must be received by August 1st.
