Chinese artist and illustrator,  Dream Chen, will guide us to create a sketchbook  exploring the ancient Chinese timing system ”Shi Chen”.

The twelve Chinese zodiac animals are quite well known in the USA. Have you ever thought about why “rat” is in front of “Ox,” and why “rabbit” is placed behind “tiger”? In fact, the sequence of how twelve animals are placed has much to do with the Chinese timing system “ Shi Chen”.  Instead of a 24hours system widely used in today’s modern society, the ancient Chinese used twelve “Shi Chen” to calculate time. The system of “Shi Chen”  is also a fundamental element for Chinese Medicine, “Yin Yang” and many other old ancient thoughts. In this workshop, we will introduce the Chinese timing system. Instead of a long lecture, we will do a fun sketch book exploration, make a chart and draw a big clock to illustrate “ Shi Chen”.
